The introductory remarks that follow were read at the opening of the conference, the proceedings of which we are publishing over the next two issues. Since the publication does not preserve the order of the presentations, nor could it include all of them, we decided to reproduce, as an ethnographic record of sorts, a summary of the presentations. |
