Inhaltsangabe

The article is a voice in the discussion upon the quality of the Church’s presence in social media. Its purpose is to show the need to develop an appropriate document referring to the active, creative and responsible presence of the Catholic Church in Poland in social media. In the first part, the teaching of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church on social media has been synthetically and theoretically presented. What results from it is that the presence of the Church in the virtual world is essential and it offers new opportunities for realising the mission of the Church. In the paper there are also recalled both positive as well as questionable examples of the presence of Church members in the new areopagus of the world. The second part of the article involves a presentation and analysis of the selected documents regulating the activity of Church members in social media, as reflected in some Catholic dioceses of the USA and Germany. In the conclusions, a reference is made to the sources, nature, authors, recipients and selected issues comprised in the analysed documents. In the last part, the features and thematic areas that should be included in the document have been indicated. The authors of the paper are of the opinion that the document should indicate the directions of the active and creative presence of the Church in social media, not ruling out its normative character in certain areas.
