Inhaltsangabe

Today it is difficult to believe that once the ball was played in the fight to death and life. Combining elements of archeology, ethnography and history, the author explains the ritual and political importance of primary form of football, which was called pelota. Long-lasing and extent popularity of this ancient sport makes it a necessary subject of social opinions, as well as specialized studies in Mesoamerica. This gives the image of a game, which for the people of Central America has a great cultural value, present in their calendar, alphabet or mythology.
