History, Memory, and Police Identity

<jats:p>Analyzing the story of slain Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner and his convicted murderer, this article examines the complex relationship between history and memory, as well as the mediating role of myth, in reasserting the collective identity of organizations. The article suggests that the contests and negotiations between history and memory have helped unite police officers as a collective in the wake of the department's loss.</jats:p>
