This is an article about the Indian Woman and her notion of sexuality—studied through an analysis of her relationship with one of the most intimate spaces of her individual—her bra. If I were to say that she is a curious mix of the ‘individual’ and the ‘social’ I would be doing an injustice to her poetry. The Indian Woman is as much self-driven as she is driven by her need to conform to the larger interests of society, she is as much the rebellious teenager as her future mother-in-law, she is a hypocrite and a cynic, and probably more true to herself than most others.
|
