<p>Knowing how higher education is organized and how it functions can enable basic writing teachers to improve both the status and the funding of their programs. This paper describes those features of higher education which organizational analysts consider crucial to the budgeting process and suggests actions which teachers can take to revise the reputations and the budgets of basic writing programs.</p>
