<label>ABSTRACT</label> <p>This introduction frames the following essays in relation to two broad developments in the historiography of early Hollywood. First, it posits a new cultural textualism on the part of historians who explore how the idea of Hollywood was constructed across a range of discourses. Second, it correlates this approach with a new sensitivity to the historical value of archival marginalia and miscellany.</p>
